The LA Dance Mission

At LA Dance, our goal is not only to prepare students for their next stage in dance but also to prepare them for life. We continually aspire to cultivate a family atmosphere without sacrificing the integrity of our instruction. We are committed to maintaining small class sizes to offer more 1-on-1 interactions while providing a more personalized education for every student in every class. While not all of the students that walk through our doors will continue to dance in a professional capacity, we desire to instill all of the life skills that a quality dance education can provide, such as perseverance, work ethic, confidence, empathy, discipline, and accountability to name a few. Plus, remember that dance is fun!

2023-2024 TEACHERS

Meet Lacey

Hi, I’m Lacey Anderson Smith, the owner and lead instructor of LA Dance. I began my dance career as a young child growing up in Colorado, and by the time I was a teen, I had begun teaching classes and was part of my studio’s competition team. I was so proud to be a member of a national championship winning team during this time. I was also thrilled to have a variety of incredible educational opportunities such as attending Joel Ruminer’s dance camps where I learned from some of the best dancers in the industry leading to a number of job offers.

After my first class, I knew that dance would be my thing. I soon discovered that teaching dance would be my passion and owning my own dance studio was my lifelong dream. I successfully realized this dream when I opened LA Dance in 2012. However, I’ve never stopped pushing myself and continue to take opportunities to increase my knowledge of dance education to enable me to reach more students more effectively.

I’m a wife and mother of three children, all of whom dance at the studio. You’ll also often see my wonderful husband working behind the scenes at the studio and LA Dance events. This is a reflection of my desire to create a family atmosphere which people can feel as soon as they walk into the studio.

I’m also very committed to the Newton-area community. I often work with local schools on dance education and for years now have assisted local middle and high school Beta teams with their individual and group talent routines, many of which have qualified for nationals! I am so grateful to be living my dream in this beautiful small-town community that is filled with so many amazing people!
